Is this grass a weed?

We have this grass that is completely overtaking some of our low lying ground cover. It spread so fast! It has a long green leaf with a white line running down the middle of it. When you pull out the root it ends in a bulb. There also appear to be these purple seed sacks connected to them also with roots that end in multiple bulbs. Is anyone able to identify it? It also appears to only grow in the shaded regions of our bed.

That might be Purple Nut Sedge.

Thanks. I'm not to sure if this is the correct guy, as there are no flower heads. I'm actually wondering if the two are the same plant. They both grow together but aren't really connected. The grass has a separate root bulb then the purple seed sack. So maybe they are completely different plants. They just happen to be always grouped in the same spots.

I'm going to see what happens with them. I've ripped out the grass and we'll see what happens. Thanks!
