Master bath layout frustrated

We are working on our house plans for a new build and decided to swap the bedroom and bathroom location and now the master bath layout has me so frazzled. The measurements in the foyer are wrong, but the bathroom/closet area is 16x16. I'm not really loving having the vanities next to the bedroom and really wanted two separate vanities. Before we swapped the bed and bath, we had two closets... I don't really mind having just one closet, I just think it needs to be bigger than it is. I thought about making the closet be on the back foyer wall and doing the bathroom against the bedroom wall, but I can't get the layout to flow like I want. We don't want a tub, but want a good size shower. I like things to be straight, so these angles are not quite what I want. Please help me lay this out so I can stop obsessing about it!! (Ignore the decor suggestions on the plans ).

It seems like there is a lot of wasted space in the current floorplan.

I mocked up 2 floor plans using your existing outer dimensions. My scaling may be off, but the concept is to combine the shower and toilet into a separate "privacy room" and keep the vanity in the larger dressing space. One option keeps the closets closer to the bedroom and you get an extra closet and more floor space for a dressing area near the sinks. The other option moves the closet to the other side and you get a HUGE closet, with less floor space for all the extra accessories like plants, tables, benches, etc. In both cases the shower I mocked up is much larger that your original drawing and would easily accommodate a built in bench. I personally like having the toilet near my shower. All sorts of reasons for that that I won't detail here :)

My personal opinion is that bathrooms need to be functional first, and spacious second. you will be much happier with a larger shower interior than having extra room for a plant table in the room.

How would you feel about entering the closet and bath from the vestibule rather than the master BR?

Oaktown, I think I like having the entrance from the bedroom.

I think Jill's first drawing is great! The closets will buffer bathroom noise. You could put a full-length mirror on the wall to the right of the sinks making a nice place to check yourself after dressing. Linens could be stored in the smaller closet. The larger one will be plenty big especially with a well-design closet system to maximize your needs.

Thank you so much, jillalambert! These are both great ideas! I think I prefer the option with the huge closet :). Our architect added the bench, plant, etc. so I definitely will not miss them. Like you, I though there was much wasted space. My only hiccup now is the windows are pretty important where they were as this is the front of the house. I think I may have the room to flip the shower around- I will have to work on it in some graph paper. These are just so much simpler!

We just moved into an apartment where the shower is in the same room with the toilet. We HATE it. I would much rather have the toilet by itself and the shower with the vanities.

Thank you all so much for your input. I played around with the drawing that jillalambert did and I think I have a layout that I am satisfied with and one that works with the windows since it is on the front of the house. I ended up not doing a toilet room and we will have a wall on that side of the shower to lend a little privacy. I haven't completely figured out the space on the top wall, but I am playing around with the idea of a built in in the bathroom and possibly a small closet that will open up to the hall that leads to the master bedroom. I love all the expert advice that everyone is so willing to give. Thank you!

You might consider putting a door at the entry to the main closet to protect clothing from excess bathroom humidity.

That makes much better use of the space. So glad you jettisoned the weird linen closet, the table, etc.
