Repurpose large mirrors.

I have 2 very large mirrors in my dining room. I need to keep them. Living in the middle condo, we have no side window, only at front(kitchen/breakfast room) and rear(sunroom). We installed the mirrors to reflect light from very bright sunroom. Dilemma: it's time for the gold to go! The red wall is also going. The mirrors are not wood, some kind of a composite material. I would love some suggestions. We have several black pieces, dark woods and glass.
We are traditionalists in style. Thanks

I'm sure that painting will transform them, but I agree with changing the paint and other aspects first -- you may find that the gold frame looks fresh in a changed context.

You can get the mirrors reframed. It's not likely that any DIY paint on the mirrors will look as nice as the gold finish in the photo. Try painting the rooms, then decide what to do with the mirrors.

Maybe reframe the mirrors in black to complement the several black pieces you already have.

I would paint the wall and leave the mirrors gold. Are you changing the gold chandelier?

I agree with painting the walls first, then decide. Those gold frames are gonna look totally different once they're no longer reflecting the red.

Ok, if its plastic or "resin" it may need a laminate primer first. They are extremely toxic, so work in a well ventilated area. Get a small artists brush, about 1/3 inch wide, and prime an area all around the frame, continuing . When that area is dry, use black paint in gloss or semi gloss. Go over the narrow primed area. About 1/3 or 1/2 of the mirror frame should now be black. Leave the gold alone.

Another trick is to glue on black ribbon, in a recessed area, all around. Same effect as paint.

Agree with the others to paint the wall first. Gold/brass is making a comeback.

So I took your advice, painted first, but still too brassy. Added a little black paint and love them. Thanks.
