I second what sey recommends. Lower leaves on tomato plants are just a design for disaster. Watering without getting leaves wet is what you are after.

Thanks Sey & Fireduck. Could the N overage be showing after just a couple days in the Dr. Earth, or could that be from the potting mix they were sprouted in: Black Gold at 0.5-0-0?

They will probably be fine.

Unfortunately, they were stressed through lack of water, and then stressed again when you potted them up, which might explain their sad-looking leaves.

I too have had problems with added nutrients which, in my case, caused rot where the stem touched the ferts/eggshells that I had added. I find it best to put some soil in the bottom of the pot, add the fert and stir it around before planting the plant.

If you are worried that you used too much fert. You can always water really well to flush out some of the fert. After that you would need to let the soil really dry out well before watering again.

If you side-dressed with it you should be able to uncover the band of fertilizer and scoop some of it out.

To me over fertilizing with "N", is like us eating a very salty food. We need/want to drink lot more water. Same is analogous to plants : They get thirsty . Water them more. That will do two things : Dilute the "N" concentration and wash down and out some of it. That will eventually happen, though slowly.

I'd just scoop it out as suggested above.

I do a table spoon into my containers weekly ish for dry and maybe a sprinkle of liquid when they are young. I've learned to dilute and add up.
