Have they done any flushing of fire hydrants in your area lately? They were talking about doing our area on the news the other night. I do know when they do this we get nasty, dark looking water. Your stained tiles reminds me of what comes out of the pipes during a fire hydrant flushing. Other than that, I do not know what to tell you.

I'm with Sophie. If it was merely staining I would expect to see it around the drain. This looks like water under the tile. Do you have photos from during the installation?

HI -- This is not good --- water is leaking under the tile because the stall was not water proofed properly . Call back the person that did it and they should fix it . It will have to be torn out and redone .

Below the tile is a fiberglass wet bed. My shower is not a standard size so I could not get a shower pan. The tile was purchased from a flooring company in New Jersey.

This is after the floor was installed, but before the grout.

What is behind the cement board? Because there is no waterproofing on top of it. And nothing tied into the bizarrely wide curb. From your description, I'm not too sure about how the pan is done either . More in progress pictures are needed. But I think you have a hack job here.

Just an update incase anyone has a similar problem as me. I called my tile man who came immediately to see the change in color. Since my tile install was only about three and a half months ago, he was just as concerned as I was. Turns out there is a crack in the grout where the floor and the wall meet so the soapy shower water is leaking under the tile and is stuck. The dirty water is changing the color of the tile. The tile man now needs to rip out all the shower floor tile and replace it. Unfortunately he thinks ripping out the tile will damage the fiberglass wet bed underneath. So that means new wet bed and all new floor tile.

He is giving you a line of complete bull.

I am having the same issue. After reviewing pics from the install, I do not think the hot mopper shaped the shower pan correctly and there is a low spot that is not draining.

My contractor thinks it is a stain. We used the shower less than 3 weeks when the stain appeared. I am certain it is trapped water because that shower reads 100% moist after not using it for two weeks.

For those who know - will the entire shower job need to come out or just the lower section? I don't want to ruin the water proof integrity of the shower. It was done with paper, wire, float and tile. All tile was sealed before use and the edges were caulked.

Marble is porous. Maybe the tile in that area has little cracks in the tile and it is soaking up the water.

Wouldn't the water hit the hot mop and flow out the weep holes of the drain? It seems it is stuck in the corner.

Did the shower floor go down first and then the wall tile down to it?

No, the walls and then the floor. In the pic showing the tile work in process, the floor is the hot mop with "dust" from the tile work making it look gray. It is before they floated it for the floor of the shower.

Marble is a porous material even if sealed properly. My bet is the tile is absorbing the water and turning the white tile darker.

Not an expert but I've DIY'd many bathrooms all with white marble and have never had this issue. Is the shower basin a Tile Redi product? I agree with others, marble is porous and does stain, but it should not have that wet look after it has dried, that tells me there is a problem underneath the tile. A few things that I can come up with are the shower is not slopped correctly and not waterproofed. I know your question is not regarding the walls but I don't see a waterproofing membrane over your cement board. All corners, joints and seams should be covered with mesh tape and waterproofed by applying at least 2 layers of membrane like RedGard.

My concern is, if your installer did not pay attention to the walls and cut corners with waterproofing your walls then I would not trust him on the install of the floor.

^^this. I've DIYed a shower also and there's no redguard on the walls so the water is running down the wall and sitting on the edge of the floor, especially if it's not sloped properly.

Hi Meg - what ended up happening and is your shower ok now? If they replaced the floor tiles did they have to do the walls too?

I would love to know what happened to Meg's shower.

It is the exact same tile as mine and the same exact problem with the same time frame.
