Matt, I have a vague memory that perhaps acerifolium is more difficult to start from cuttings than other viburnums.

Mine are also are wild ones that grow in my woods. Not hugely dense foliage or particularly tall plants (<4'), but gorgeous red fall color. The ripe berries are dark colored, and the plant suckers a bit. They grow in a variety of conditions from full shade to part sun. They never get extra water, but the woods stay somewhat moist all the time under the duff.

Sorry - I looked but no reasonable photos. I'll see if I can find one to photograph this weekend, though it will at best just be pushing leaves.

Hi Matt, this viburnum is commonly found from the coastal plain to the mountain zone and everywhere inbetween in both your state and mine. It is one of the most desirable of all understory shrubs. Not found in the trade due to propagation and production problems, it just doesn't cooperate.

This pic taken this morning on diabase neutral soils under a canopy of sweet birch and tulip tree. The fall color is really beautiful.

I found a photo of fall foliage. The peachy colored ones farther back are totally shaded by dense hemlocks, while the one in the front gets a few hours of morning sun and brighter shade the rest of the day, so has better color. This is at the very end of the season (Nov. 1) when most things are bare and even the Viburnums, which are some of the last to drop their leaves, have started losing leaves, so not as dense or bright as they might be. My soil is acid fine sandy loam.
