They probably have the AV shipment already unloaded. Cannot have the Mother's day without AVs.

I've read that the Phalaenopsis orchid is now the number one houseplant in America. They are everywhere including home magazines, TV shows, hotels, hospitals, you name it. As a long time orchid grower this does please me although I am appalled at the dyeing of the majestic white Phalaenopsis to blue, green, whatever.

Our Meijers usually carries violets & I will be checking it out tomorrow. Aside from that store, Lowes, & the local nursery, I don't find AVs anymore. Home Depot, Walmart, Menards, & various grocery stores around my area haven't stocked any for a couple of years. But they all have an abundance of Phalaenopsis.

Terri, I checked out Lowes and two greenhouses...not AV's. Well, actually, Lowes had some left over from last year...no blooms, only leaves.

As for the orchids, I can understand their popularity, but AV's have been around for ages and the hybridization has resulted in amazing variety.

I'll stick to EBay for procurement. I only wanted to check out the local stores to see if anything new has been displayed.

I just got an ad for Mother's Day from Walmart. I asked for "houseplants" and got "House of Silk" artificial plants. Nothing live and nothing real.

I picked up a couple of AV's at Walmart a few days ago. The stores in my area got them in for Mother's Day but don't have them frequently. I know Optimara in Nashville has sent out lots of plants for Mother's Day so this is probably one of the best times of year to look for them.
