Growing Tomatoes

Which 3 tomato plants to keep in a small garden?

We are living in a tiny space this summer. I only have space for 3 tomato plants. I have bought 4. I can not decide who gets to stay and who has to go. I have:

Big Beef

Rutgers

Jet Star

Hillbilly ( from West Virginia)

Any thoughts in regards to disease resistance and more importantly, taste :-))

My vote - skip the Hillbilly. It is not that it is a bad one, it isn't. Just that IME its production is much less than the other three.

Taste is purely personal but many love Big Beef (including me) and Rutgers is a personal favorite in my house. Jet Star is not great but is good average home grown tomato. Hillbilly has a really good flavor IMO by very low production.

I would keep Rutgers in. They have good production and are a good all-round (multipurpose) tomato.

I can only speak of Rutgers as that's the only one I've grown so far from your list. Loved it. It's a keeper. This year I'm only growing 2 tomato plants. Rutgers and black Krim. First time growing black Krim. Hope it's worth the little space I have.
