Yes, they will bloom, eventually :-) Lilacs commonly spread by suckers to form rather dense thickets if left to their own devices and starting new plants from root suckers is very common. Just dig down deeply, severing the sucker from the mother plant. Be sure to get some of the root system and replant where wanted. It usually takes a couple of years before the sucker is mature enough to start producing flowers on its own.

agree ... the sucker will need to grow a root mass .. sufficient to support growth.. and eventually flowering ... 3 to 5 years ... depending on where you are ... length of growing season.. etc ...

i would stick a shovel in.. about a foot away.. loosen the soil ...gently pull on the sucker.. to ID where its coming from.. remove a bit of soil to see the root .. and snip it back into the mother plant.. as far as you can ...

i have increased success .. by potting them for the summer.. to grow some roots.. and planting them in fall ... full shade for the pot ... mostly to increase proper watering ... since i put them next to the spigot ...

but you will probably succeed if you just shove them in the ground where you want them ...

yes, after they kill the main plant. I either remove the suckers or dig them up to get more lilac bushes

Flashphoto, don't worry. Suckers do not kill the parent plant. If left for some years they might outgrow it (on grafted plants) or form a thicket (on non-grafted plants). But they won't kill it.
