Baby Pubicalyx RHP

last modified: 10 years ago

Just thought I would share a picture of an
itty bitty Pubicalyx I just bought. I could not resist this little cutie, in its 2inch pot and all. Look at that little peduncle hanging like a little bell off the main part of the plant! I am in love!

    So cute! Love those leaves.

I like it. That is a happy plant. It's big for being in a 2 inch pot

Before you know it you'll have a big beauty.

How lucky for you to have a cutting with a peduncle! Love the crimson red on the leaves, too!

The red is really pretty on this one, indeed. Think I should repot it anyone? Maybe I'll wait until it blooms, the buds are still forming.

Yes, wait until after it blooms, otherwise the buds will blast and no one wants that. They also like small pots, so I wouldn't repot it until it's pretty rootbound or the roots are coming out of the pot.

    Jan's plants are wonderful!

Yes! Full credit goes to Jan for growing this little cutie. Was talking to her today about some other cuttings on Facebook, and I saw all the pictures of her horses. WOW. That girl sure knows how to pick, grow, and breed some BEAUtiful specimens of all shapes and sizes!

Look at the beautiful crimson veins these leaves have. Stunning!

What species of pubicalyx is it? I wonder if it will keep the buds or blast them.

It's pubicalyx Royal Hawaiian Purple, some of the most beautiful leaves I've ever seen on one. And I am praying to the Hoya Gods that it will keep the buds to full bloom, but if it does.. hey, the peduncle will stick around :)

Pubicalyx, Hoya Australis Lisa and Hoya obovata variegated are on my wish list.

And the variegated heuschkeliana but so expensive on eBay.

I love hoya obvata. It is an expensive hobby, but the rewards are priceless!

    Update!

It appears this little trooper will not be blasting (most) of her buds! Some of them are still really small though, any thought on whether she may drop those? Not sure if they're just slower development or going to be blasted.

Also, it looks like a couple of the buds will be blotched with dark purple! Hooray! (I really am obsessed with that random blotching of colors lol)

Also seeing the start of two peduncles on the end of the main vine. Here's to hoping they stick around!

The new nub on top (that you can see clearly in your above photo) might be a new peduncle (has that look to it), but the one underneath looks like just new vine growth. Regadrdless, you want both to happen! Signs of a very happy plant!

Another update! Sorry if this post is getting tiring for y'all! Lol

I'm just so happy she didn't blast her buds. They are about to bloom I believe!

Thank you. It is my absolute favorite Hoya by far :)

If anyone knows where to get Hoya Pub. Pink Dragon please contact me! I have all the cultivars except that one and I must have!

Do you have celata (white dragon), HSI-037 (thought to be the original pubicalyx), jungle garden, cv. Reva, and cv. Wren?

Celata, jungle garden, pink dragon, and cv. Reva can be found at AHHoya.com, and cv. Wren is mine :) (cross of EPC 157 and RHP). HSI-037 and jungle garden are also common in the United States.

Aurora, when you are ready to sell cuttings of yours, you got a buyer right here!

That is just precious! Love that plant and the blooms. I have one too, but not as much red in the leaves.

I have all except Wren and Pink! I had yet to hear of Wren until now. Do you have bloom photos by chance? Of course I must have it too, so when youre ready I'd also like to buy! I got Celata from Poland (along with Fresno Beauty) can't wait for those white flowers. HSI 037 I got from Jan in the same order as the plant in this original post and it's done exceptional.
