I have the native species, and Athens. They are both planted on the east side of large trees, in areas I'd describe as high shade.

I checked several websites for all 3 species that went into the breeding of 'Aphrodite', and didn't find any that said part to full shade. Rarefind nursery said it wasn't fussy about light levels, and everywhere else said sun to part shade, including the Missouri Botanical Garden which is my go-to spot for reliable info. Fine Gardening said it blooms better with some sun. I have seen growing Calycanthus (Hartledge Wine and floridus) growing in half day shade and they were fine.

In general IME with plants that will tolerate full shade but also sun, the more light they get, the more densely they grow, and the better they bloom. So I would expect that in full shade (that doesn't have as much light as Mad_Gallica's has) your plant wouldn't bloom as well. My choice would be to give it at least some sun or high bright shade.
