Thank you "jmerritt07" for your question, I really enjoy this question. I bought this house in 2007 and remodeled it through 2008. Now all while most of my friends and acquaintances were wanting to tear out their old and "dated" grasscloth and wallpaper, i secretly loved it, the crazier the better. I was so sick of dealing with the costly and messy task of having to deal with awful textured drywall. After a few homes, lots of $, and NEVER ending up with a texture I was truly pleased with I walked into a local store in Austin called Wallpapers to Go, they may have them nationally. It had been in the same place since I was a kid, and I had never really been in, and on the few occasions that I had it seemed destined for bankruptcy, or it was just empty and tacky...sorry! I always felt that this is the place you go when you don't want to hire a professional, make and wait for a special order, or.... well I won't say anymore. However one day desperate and out of patience (YEP) and in the area I went in, and saw the same ole thing, after a few minutes of asking myself, how in the world.... in the back corner of the store I saw bolts of Grasscloth IN STOCK! Bam I had my answer, It was "out of the box" enough for me, (it was not "back in style" at that time) and it would get rid of aka cover up all the drywall headaches and heartaches in a matter of hours! I bought all they had and used every bit. I came in 4 colors I believe, a light, almost white, natural, a red/brown, and my favorite the grey silver! Here is the kicker it was something like $24.95 a double roll!!! I became a regular customer for a few years until.....Alas grasscloth is back and with a vengeance, of course I still love it and use it, but now for the colors and quality I had paid so little for, I am now having to get it through Ralph Lauren, Phillip Jeffries, and other fairly pricey vendors. Although the popularity sent the prices soaring it is still the best thing I went for, considering I would rather have a padded cell than deal with all that goes into achieving a good result with drywall finishes. Of course now there are other great options like cork, string cloth, even canvas or burlap backed with paper. I had paper backing applied a large amount of Lee Jofa fine gage burlap and installed in a master bedroom once, before it was or I knew it was already available as a wall covering. It looked great, and I thought I was genius, but it was short lived and I finally realized it was what had been giving me allergies...lol.

It's true. Grasscloth wallpaper nowadays can be pricey. Choosing an imitation grasscloth is a great way to get the look for less. Check out these patterns (some real, some imitation) that are closer to the $25/double roll range.
