I just realized the light is a bronze finish & not black( it looked black in the pics). Will that look good?

The only way I'd use a black light fixture is if you are going to do a very black framed mirror, otherwise I think it's totally fine :)

What about a softer/ muted orange paint colour, taken from the owl in the living-room? I have some orange accents in the living-room too & there is orange in my painting at the front door & canvas in the dining room! It might tie all the colours together & I can bring the orange & purple into my kitchen too:)

Or creamy white walls & just bring in orange accents?

Indomom- Should I paint it the same colour as my kitchen for continuity? I believe it's White Down(CC-50- BM)...same as my trim color, but that's done in oil paint. Then my daughters black and white will stand out more! What accent colors should I go with in towels? Purple, orange or red? What color would you paint a trim around the mirror then...trim color?

I'm going on holidays soon & I'm hoping to tackle a few projects...changing the wall colour & making a frame for around the mirror in the powder room. I'm keeping the bathroom cupboards for now...but could paint it & change the countertop...input on that?:). I'm thinking cream coloured walls, then I can have orange, purple or red towels( bring out colour from the owl in my LR). With the walls a cream Colour, what colour would you paint the frame around the mirror? I was thinking I could stain it the same as the shelves in my LR or would black or another colour be better? Opinions please:)

I would find a nice piece of furniture to drop a sink in and loose the builder grade base. I would then find a wonderful wallpaper or something else on the walls. Go for elegant to meet your eclectic style. A powder room should be over the top.

Love the orange idea!! For paint colour or accents. Paint would be fun if you can find the right one. Get some samples and see what you think. Farrow and Ball "charlottes locks" is so so beautiful if you feel brave!

Back at it after enjoying the summer months!! I'm going to replace the builder mirror, with this wood framed mirror. Repainted walls a neutral colour & add colourful accessories:)

I FINALLY got around to painting my powder room a neutral colour!! I like the fact that I can change accessory colours(towels etc), without having to change wall colour. I'm still thinking about hanging a mirror with a chunky dark wood frame around it up, above the sink, change lighting & add my daughters artwork back up on the walls. Do you have any other suggestions or ideas? The lamp is of course not staying! I just don't have a new vanity light yet:)

your dark framed chunky mirror will look great above the sink- I think It will look so much better than the previous mirror- is it your daughters fabulous leopard you'll be hanging in here?

TraceyE- Yes...I would like to hang my daughters leopard drawing back on the wall:). I wonder if I should hang a mixture of black and white prints on the wall? Should I change the matting to cream now on the leopard print, instead of the white that it is now. Should I keep it in the black frame or change it to a different colour?

I think the leopard is enough. Can you prop the picture on the toilet so we can see it against the new wall color?

Actually now that I see it against the cream walls...it doesn't look bad at all. What are you thoughts?of course the lighting is very dim at the moment too.

I think the wood around the mirror I bought is too dark, so I'm going to cut down the old mirror slightly and get hubby to make a frame to go around it & stain it the same colour as the shelving in my livingroom. Thoughts on this idea?

I think the leopard in its current frame looks great, are you able to prop the mirror on the sink to see how it looks?

I think the leopard will get better viewing on the wall you see as you come in. I thought the super dark mirror frame looked good with the leopard, but you're in the space.

Here is the leopard hung back up on the wall and the really dark framed mirror( which I'm undecided if using). I would hang it horizontally though or the lights above wouldn't be centred above if hung vertically. If we make a frame to go around the old mirror, we could make it larger. Thoughts?

Oh, a picture is worth a thousand words! I didn't realize that the sink isn't centered in the vanity. That is a conundrum!

I went back and looked at the original mirror and I think it could work if framed (but not necessarily cut down in size). At least then the mirror and light fixture would be centered. Maybe paint the frame black to tie in with the picture?

I love the leopard!

The old frame fits pretty much from the wall to the cabinet edge. I may need to trim the mirror down a smidgen to accommodate a trim otherwise the frame might hang past the cabinet a bit...if that makes sense?;)
Here are other black and white paintings my daughter has done that I could use in the bathroom. Also another drawing of two lions my daughter drew, that I can make a print of & possibly hang over the toilet, along with the leopard?

I honestly think either one would look good. This light reminds me of your rustic shelves in the den. It might look really good with one of your daughter's pieces with the black background.

Indomom- We ended up buying the second light as we were thinking that it matched the shelving in the living room too...plus it was on sale, which was an extra bonus;) We have to patch the wall a bit where the old light was. We should have the new one up tomorrow. I hope I like it up! If I don't...I'll return it and buy the other one. I'll take a pic soon:)

Okay- light fixture up! I like it! I'm just rethinking the mirror now. Do you think a Matt black framed mirror would look better than the wood framed mirror? It might look nice with the black framed art? Also...above the toilet...should I leave it blank, hang another piece of artwork or my latest idea...make two chunky floating shelves, one above each other, to tie the it to the LR?

I like the black framed mirror (ties in with light and art) and the chunky shelves (ties in with LR and light). You're on a roll!

I'm thinking if I brought in Orange or red as an accent colour it will tie it to the living room and dining room & Orange is in my opinion a mid century looking colour. Thoughts??

I kind of like the freshness of green for the bath, but I could be persuaded as long as the black and orange don't suggest Halloween. :)

I do think it would be too much to do all plumbing supplies. I like the floating shelves you posted (and the heft of them). With towels, just bring home one of each color and see what you like. I love your light!

I'm lovin the new light fixture too!! Even better...it was a $100 cheaper than the other light fixture. Not that it was deciding factor...but I actually liked the industrial/rustic look of this one. It bring in more black into the bathroom, like the other rooms. Off to find a black framed mirror now!Thanks for your input...it's so helpful to get feedback from others who enjoy decor!! I love my hubby but, he normally says "it's up to you", when it comes to decor decisions...not exactly helpful!!;)

Aw, thanks. I'm no pro, but I've been alive a long time--haha! I've enjoyed all of your other projects and like the "vibe" of your home.

I want it to be a very comfy place that people feel comfortable in! I don't really know what my look is exactly...It's eclectic...a lil bit rustic, industrial, mid-century. I'm liking it though!!
Another question...should I hang anything on the long wall that you see when you're on the toilet?

I'd get your mirror and shelves up before adding any more to the walls.

I'm thinking of finding an old dresser to sand down to use as a cabinet. What do you think about that idea? When I find one...should I paint it Cream, black or stain it like the shelves? Or another idea...I can repainted the cabinet that's there...make a cement countertop? Just some ideas floating around in my head;). Fill free to pass along any ideas that you have too!!!

I think the dresser idea would look great in your house. It would also allow you to center the sink with the light and mirror. :) I'm guessing a plumber could make that work?

As for paint, I think you have lots of options: black with black framed mirror; black with stained frame like shelves; both stained; dresser stained with black framed mirror...so many choices.

Also, a cement counter top could tie in really well with that light fixture. Have you done that before?

No...I haven't made a cement countertop before...but how hard can it be?!!;). I'll have to think about it for a bit
