Marble or Laminate Tulip Table?

Hello!

I'm decorating a new apartment in NYC and torn between doing the Carrara white marble (in satin finish) or the white laminate tabletop for a Saarinen tulip dining table.

It's not an issue of cost, more that I'm worried the white marble will clash with the dark granite kitchen countertops. Attached kitchen photo is from when prior tenant lived there, we are painting the apartment Purbeck Stone with Wevet for ceilings and trim (Farrow & Ball), but because it's a rental can't do anything to cabinetry.

Would love any and all advice!!

go with the marble! in my opinion, it will not clash with the granite or vice versa. the veins in the marble will give the space some needed texture that the white laminate will not.

Good timing we are looking at these as well. We saw a knock off and the marble top was a thin slab of marble where they built up the edges and fill the rest with some sort of epoxy.

We have kids and are worried about the tipping of the table with one central leg. Th done we saw was old and it was not a good copy and was loose on it's base.

Anybody have real world experience?

I like them both and also like the wood veneer top models.

my neighbors have had one with the Carrara marble top for years. they use it as their kitchen table. so it gets used a great deal of the time and withstood many moves since their kitchen was used for TV set.

however, I would look at any guarantee that comes with the one that you purchase. I suspect that there are many knockoffs of the original tulip tables in the marketplace and quality frequently suffers when production costs are cut.

I picked laminate for my 42 inch Saarinen table. And yes. I have some regrets about not picking marble. But one positive is that moving it will be a lot easier. The marble tops are very heavy and very hard to move. In addition much more subject to cracking

so I agonized over this as well... love the tulip table but didn't like the look of laminate nor the porousness of marble. I found a great alternative at room and board where they offer it in quartz. It looks fabulous and very functional.
