I would suggest that you contact a museum or a house museum curator about installation of these gorgeous panels! It is customary to install them in boards of some sort so that they can be removed and moved. The appropriate kind of boards, the fixative used, is something left to experts. The last thing you would want to do is ruin the panels by cutting them down to fit above your chair rail or using the wrong sort of glue to attach them to your walls. These are absolutely beautiful! You should build your room around them. Lucky you!

I would pay the money to have them mounted so you could take them with you but I would remove the chair rail even then to mount them on the wall. Save the rail to replace if you sell or move.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I do want to ensure that I care for these properly - would hate to ruin them with the wrong type of adhesive or mounting process. The idea of speaking with a curator makes sense.

The installer who mounts artwork on gator board uses a permanent adhesive - which concerns me. Perhaps someone who installs handpainted wallpaper like de Gounay would be worth contacting, as well. Just not sure how to even find someone like that.

Caveat: no matter what you do, don't count on spending less than $180/panel. Working with silk murals is an art and someone inexperienced will destroy them.

Another suggestion is to professionally mount them as a room divider screens with hinges. Absolutely gorgeous. Looks like antique Zuber or DeGourney wallpaper in which case the panels may be very valuable. The wallpaper runs now about $75,000 + just for the wallpaper.

It's not *that* expensive - $75,000 is a whole room floor to ceiling, not three panels.
