Bugs on roots

Hello all! And thanks in advance for the advice.

A friend gave me her snake plant and when I got it home I noticed these tiny white bugs at the bottom, lots of them! They are crawling around near the drainage holes where the soil is still moist. I was planning on repotting soon because the poor thing looks sick and the soil it's in doesn't seem like a good medium. Anyone have any idea what these are and how to get rid of them? If I can?

Couldn't get a picture because they're too small. But it looks like there's definitely some root rot going on. In the mean time I put it outside hoping the soil will dry up and maybe the spiders will help me out.
