I would do polished concrete.

you could also stain and polish the concrete epoxy coatings look very institutional in pretty much any color that I have seen.

We, as a furniture retailer, tend to tell our customers to select inspiration in which it looks like you have done. It would be a fun idea to make it look like sand but you don't want it to too be too busy. This look is speckled enough that it could look like a solid but close up you can tell its speckled. Also, since you are doing such fun colors on your walls I would suggest a neutral color and keep it like so it make the space seem bright and happy. Otherwise if you don't like this look I would pull out grey in the fireplace. Grey is such a great neutral and will stay around for many years to come. Our store has many interior designers so this is why we feel like we are helpful and not just a furniture retail store.

I think bringing out the wood tones around the fireplace in a warm, simple neutral epoxy. Definitely nothing busy, no blue no color. Grey could be a nice neutral but I'd prefer to see the warmer tones of the logs brought out!!!

Stain the concrete. Be sure to place washable rugs in the path from the door to the restroom/changing room so that those with wet feet to not slip on the polished concrete.

Does anyone have feedback on color of the floor?? My dad is stubborn on grays and blues but look at the busy walls!! Do people agree brown warm tones would look better??

I would go cream because of the walls and then when you repaint, you have choices. grays and blues are too cold for basement and the colors on your walls. brown warm tones would look better but lock in what you could paint in future.

I do think you're right, Ramona. I was thinking grays, since the fireplace will be mostly gray; but of course, the wood around it is brown! Also, I can foresee, 5 years from now saying, "What were we thinking when we painted the walls those colors?" Actually, we were going to paint them gray with a blue stripe, but my daughters (20's) said, "This is a rec room! Let's have some fun with it!" So they convinced me, any my husband reluctantly conceded. Now he thinks since we chose the wall colors, he should be able to choose the floor and he wants epoxy with blue, black and white flakes! Horrors!!!!!

that is not a rational decision. lol. you decorate the walls; i'll decorate the floors; to hell with the color clash. give him a room upstairs!!

We just did this ! Whole lower level of bungalow walkout ! Really small flake epoxy in muted grey/beige colors. Including two bedrooms, bathroom - I love that the floor is seamless and low maintenance. No grout lines. The floor is now covered for painting, but once baseboard was on, I think it looked even better, painting, decorating, etc is going to be so unique and fun in this area ... We have cabinetry going in, media wall, small wet bar, need area rugs, etc. A work in progress ...

Floor is covered right now, work still in progress, above is a partial picture of the floor, with baseboard, in one of the bedrooms, it is smooth, seamless, and we have hydronic heated floors in our whole lower level so we can feel the warmth as well. Only primer on the walls so far, still needs paint, lighting, cabinetry, and then area rug to cozy it up, furniture, décor, etc.

Lana333, can you tell me EXACTLY what you used on your floors?? I love them!

I just googled epoxy floors and learned that you should never, ever, do any welding on them without first laying down some kind of protecting material. Beyond that, they can pretty much stand up to anything. My understanding from reading dilemmas and articles here on Houzz is that polished concrete requires more maintenance than most flooring products, including wood. I think the epoxy idea sounds interesting.

We used epoxy flake flooring but color blend #B-806 in the smaller 1/8" flake. That is what makes it very muted and less industrial looking. Google TORGINOL and check out their epoxy flake colors. Good luck with your floor !

Also note we used a urethane top coat to hopefully be best choice for long term wear. Please check out on line from CMT Adhesives the product UCTR-3500 Polyurethane Coating. Good Luck !
