Try something a little more playful with the carpet! I would also put a slipcover on the loveseat and move It to the wall opposite the bookcases to create more balance in the room. Good luck!

I think it needs a bit more colour, as suggested above. Carpet, maybe some big kiddie-type graphics or stickers on the wall, and replace/repaint some of the pink with something a bit brighter.

Looks like you have designated a wonderful play space for your child. Perhaps the feeling you have that the space is not quite right relates to the darker heavier items that do not say "play space." For example, the dark adult furniture, and the beige walls that speak to grown-up space. Can the bookshelves be divided between the wall where it they currently placed, and the other half of the bookshelves set placed on the opposite wall. There would be more "kid zone" visually, and the room would be more balanced in terms of weight and color. If you have to keep the couch, you could put a throw or some colorful pillows to brighten and lighten the visual space. You could also float the couch in the middle of the open space at the opposite end of the room, then use a table at the back of the couch for decorator items that would announce a transition from adult-purposed to child-purposed space.

You want everything in a play room to be geared to kids. Great start to the room but I agree with the above posters about adding some fun, colorful carpet that the kids will really love. Add a kids art gallery wall, kids reading nook with teepee, small kids chairs/floor poufs. A colorful rug.

The rugs with roads and town layouts on them are fun for the kids and suit both cars and building toys , whether wooden or plastic.

Paint boxes and cabinet doors with warm and bold colours like the colours of toys. Give the doll house own cosy space. Move couch on a longer wall.

Add some children-like colorful artwork. Plus a child-height play table in the middle, preferably in a bright color, or even better, with the alphabet, numbers, and shapes, etc, painted on it.

The light filtering thru the window, or is that a shade is so oppressive. Can you put a fun valance on the window? It'll give the room a focal point. Right now, all I see is the glaring filtered light.

Great advice. I'd also add some floor to ceiling drapery panels around the window and lose the shade unless you really need it for privacy. Is that a bay window under there?
