Any gentle baby shampoo like Johnson works best, or any surfactant labeled for lawn use. Just no dyes or perfumes. Try hand watering & you should see whether it's absorbing water or not. Sometimes soil gets hydrophobic, so hopefully that's all it is.

@reeljake - Thank you again for the information. I gathered all the baby shampoo at my house and sprayed entire front / back yard. I guess Bakersfield, CA has clay loamy Soil(??), should I try to water twice a week instead of once a week? It was fine until we had few days of high 80s and 90s.

Try poking the soil in the dry spots with a screw driver and see how far it goes (and how easy), then try the other areas for comparison. Also make sure you water plentifully after using the baby shampoo for best results.

@Kevin - I did few test with screw driver, it was definitely different from green area. It felt much more compacted. After spray shampoo I only ran half cycle of sprinkler because my watering day is coming tomorrow. Should I shampoo again tonight so it can be watered down into soil tomorrow morning with sprinkler? Or should I wait another week or so?

Sure, you can give it another dose of baby shampoo.

@jaehong..I too love in Bakersfield and seeing the same issues with my Bermuda. How did you get yours fixed. Now the heat is more than 100

HU and others. 4 years ago I was going through a thing that took me away from this hobby, so kinda sorry I missed this one. That looks like classic water sprinkler mismatch. The sprinkler simply isn't getting there.

HU you might consider opening a new topic with pix of your lawn. Also mention Bakersfield, because otherwise I'll ask where you live. Also mention your watering schedule (how often and for how long).
