You're most likely going to get two types of answers on here; one in favor of solid hardwood, and the other in favor of engineered hardwood (with a solid wood wear layer) I have used both extensively over the past 20+ years, with more of the solid, finish-in-place type. Having said that, with your situation especially, *stabilty* is key so I would also recommend engineered flooring (NOT laminate :) with at least an 1/8" wear layer. Engineered flooring also often has an aluminum oxide finish, MUCH harder than most finish-in-place finishes, so that will increase its durability. I would NOT use a floating floor, for a variety of reasons. If you're looking for a very durable hard flooring, heres a post I made earlier on the subject.
