Check on this plant. You might need to locate some fruit. If it's a citrus, you may have to start the seeds from the fruit before they dry out.

If you had got seeds, they'd be dead by the time you'd get them planted and you wouldn't understand what happened to them. Find a source for cuttings or buy one, grow it, and use it for future cutting material. Sorry the news wasn't better.
