New to begonias

Hi, all! I am a new to begonias, and I have a question. I'm in zone 5b.

I have planted several tuberous begonia plants from a local nursery. Do they require any encouragement from me (pinching, pruning, etc) to bush and spread out? Or will they naturally spread on their own?

We've had a bit of a cold snap, and I've been worried about them... We recently moved, and after I planted my begonias a neighbor mentioned the previous owner used to do the same out front, so now I'm EXTRA anxious they do well! ;-)

I'm in USDA Zone 5 too. Generally the tuberous (tuberhybrida) spread by their own, probably bred to do that. You want the hanging type to be a little lanky in their growth, they seem to do well without any pinching. If they seem slow to lean, you can put a small clothes pin on an end here and there to encourage that. August is supposed to be the big month for tuberhybrida to show their stuff, probably because the days start getting short then and that is when in nature their tuberous ancestors bloom and die back.
