A thick branch of my 'Belva's Joy' was snapped...hopefully just by an animal. It is 1/4th or even 3/8th inch thick. It is still 1/2 attached to the main stem, so it is getting nutrients and managed to bloom. Can I just pile a big mound of soil around it? I have done this with thinner branches - I layered a 'Viscy' a year ago and it seemed to survive separation from the plant in the fall as it is now potted up and putting on new growth. Since I seem hopeless in my attempts to root rhodies, at least this is a way I have to increase them.
Should I maybe try to scrap some bark from it first, maybe with something very precise like an industrial razor blade? Drop of rooting hormone haha?
