help: Japanese iris

Somewhere I read that japanese iris cannot be planted with tall bearded iris. I'm planning on planting japanese iris throughout my garden, but I don't want to jeopardize my existing tall bearded irises. Does anyone know if this is true or just an old wives tale?

Well, they prefer very different growing conditions, so I would think that would be the basis for this contention. J.iris like an acidic, heavily organic soil with consistent moisture. Beardeds prefer a loose, fast draining soil that is closer to a neutral pH. And they are far more tolerant of hot, drier conditions.
