How much depth do I need for Tile?

I am tiling my kitchen and want a smooth transition from the living room. I have 3/4 inch hardwoods in the living room and the kitchen is just subfloor - so I have 3/4 inch room/depth to tile. Is that enough depth to tile? 1/4 inch cement board 1/4 tile and 1/4 inch thin set mortar? Not sure. Hoping I didn't mess this up..ugh.
