ok, i'm gonna read it! I need a good book right now and haven't had time to read in eons!
Great! It's got a really good twist in the end. Let me know if you like it, ok?

@mp and olldbobbi. A great product for getting pills into a pet is "Greenies" brand "Pill Pockets." They are play dough consistency. Drop the pill in the little hole, pinch the top closed and the pet gobbles it up. Greenies come in two sizes, one for for cats and one for dogs, and in come in different flavors. My kitty gets her daily pill down and sometimes wants "seconds!" sometimes I use the pill pockets as a treat with no pill inside. Check prices. The pet store sells a bag for $9.99, but the vet's office is about $7.50.
Wow! Good to know, thanks ez!
Eztia - why didn't I know about those "pill pockets," when I had cats that hated taking pills?!
never heard of them either! i could try it with foo foo, but he has an eating disorder already. I don't even know if that will work with him. 2 of the pills he gave me are tiny, I can get those in him, but one is large and the vet crumbled it up and we fed (forced) it to him that way this morning. I have to do that one 3 times a day and it's like chalk! I'm thinking that maybe I should cage Dali up during the day for right now just to give fooey some time. I think he's as stressed out as i am right now! he's a nervous little thing to begin with.
my cat will eat anything...including the dog food. you know how it's usually the opposite, the dog's like the cat food, well it's the opposite at my house. It's the "opposite house" for sure.
    ok..introducing Jack & Peter! :)
they look like cartoons to me....but they are cute.
MP, how cool is that? It's so great she's not afraid of them! How old is she now?
not as cute as Boo Mappin, I could never say no to her ;)
MP, oh my gosh! Both are just precious! How does she like her bunny??
Bobbi, with Mal as her mother, how could she not love animals, and not be afraid of them?!

Astraea, I signed up but now I can not figure how to get into AARP discussion. If it wasn't do sad it would be funny.
    Astraea, you're so right!

MP! I have the perfect solution for YOU!!! You need to find yourself a sugar daddy! A veterinarian would be perfect! Or, better yet, a veterinarian who specializes in home improvement! What do you think, is that perfect, or what?
boo is 3 and a half now..all grown up! sugar daddy, prob wouldn't work for me,,
  • 13 years ago
should have gone out with one of my old flames when i had the chance, but didn't because of it.
mp - call up your old flame - that is done in this day and age.
Bobbi, you ARE going to that wedding, for no other reason that you aren't missing out on a great weekend away. Do not give them a cheque. Give them something useful, practical and downright boring!!! Something they will hate, which would probably be anything that isn't cash, but everyone else will love. Putting my thinking cap on here - a nice pair of lamps maybe, or a mirror (not a trick one, or, or, or ....................... what about one of mp's paintings!!!! How could anyone not want an original artwork. OMG - the deathbed one is perfect!!!!
I think you should give them something priceless from your sons past. Like a baby bib or blanket that was your sons that they could use for their future. Guilt is always the best medicine. Or something that you and your husband cherish that has strengthened your marriage. Share it with your son and his new wife and say something about the bond it has united. Oh there is nothing like humility to make one notice their wrong doings. Your son will see it and then if his wife still rejects it, he will start seeing the b - - - - underneath.
Ok, so I got the bath painted yesterday to only decide today it was too light. It needed more depth. So I made a custom color with left over paints and love it. Unfortunately I only got two walls repainted.. Nothing like painting a room twice. ugh and bathrooms are not fun to paint. Lights came in today, hope to have then up before the end of the week. Yea! Yea!

mp...there is a note for you over on OLLD 3/10
  • 13 years ago
Hi lizzybethme - are you coming to play???

Tras, what colour did you paint? I didn't mind painting my bathrooms, there wasn't much of them and I didn't have to climb up and down so much. Were the guys ok with doing the extra lights? What did you end up deciding - we discussed so much.
judyg...I'm so sad to hear of your unpleasant wedding experience. You may have a point. I've been encourging bobbi to attend and I still think she should. But, I am leaning towards bobbi's idea of attending the wedding then slipping out soon after the "reception" starts. Bobbi...at a minimum, whisper to your son, or say aloud to both of them... "Thank you for inviting us". If you don't go, it will be the ammo to them to not EVER to speak to you again. I can hear them say, "We invited them and they didn't have the courtesy to attend". As far as wedding gift? How about a gift card to something your son will enjoy..like a Lowe's or Home Depot gift card? hehehe. A "home improvement" gift card.
MP your "babies" are adorable! What a cutie! We are also big animal lovers in our family. I'm so sad for my Mom. We just found out her dog (about 12 yrs old) has terminal cancer and mother is in bad shape about it. She has a few acres and she has a pet cemetary and we have funerals for them. Such saps we are. Roo...her dog is an Australian Shephard, I think. A Queensland Heeler. Is that truely an Australian breed?
Darzy, I only learned about the Australian Shepherd here when the ollds were talking about them. Never heard of them here at all but apparently that is because there is nothing Aussie about them, the breed has been developed in the US. Absolutely gorgeous dogs though.

    http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/australianshepherd.htm

The Queensland Heeler is just one name for the Australian Cattle Dog and they are very much Aussie. My uncle had one, she was the most affectionate dog but put her to work rounding cattle and she was amazing, it all just came naturally to her. You can read up on them here -

    http://www.thinkytees.com/CattleDogHistory.html

So basically they are totally different breeds - leave it to you to work out which one your mum has, probably an Aussie Shepherd.

Mary P – OK, you’ve registered on the AARP website? I don’t see you on the “OLLD Friends” “pending members” list. Go back to the group, and “Request to Join”:

    http://www.aarp.org/online-community/groups/index.action?slGroupKey=de25c62b-69a3-48f2-8478-0f20a2989c86

Even if you think you did it before, make another request to join.

Ironwood – I think I saw you post on one of the “Design Dilemmas”, where there were no pictures, but the person kept asking about the dimensions of the rooms. Doesn’t that sound a bit ridiculous to ask online?

Roo – How strange, that the “Australian Shepherd” is really a Basque herding dog!
Roo, we have 8 walls in our bathroom and 4 door openings to trim around...kid you not! The builder built out all these strange corners to fit everything in. Kind of a bear when doing the chair rail, etc. because I've never done anything but 45degree corners. The chair rail is already in so I had to tape all of it out also and cut around the shower. Not so bad really just a bit more work then a regular room.

I started with Benjamin Moore's nimbus 1465 since the bedroom is that color. But ended up dumping Kendal charcoal in with it and a little smoke embers. Now it's one of those colors I will seal tight with plastic wrap first because I will never be able to duplicate exactly. But I really like it!

Uggg, can't figure out why sometimes my pic will post on the pad and other times not. Anyways we went with this light. I really wanted the one from Circa but this was a good alternative. I pick out three I can live with and let hubby make the final decision. Price is always objective #1.
    http://progresslighting.com/products.aspx?product=P2843-134

I'm not going to do any cans right now, I'll be lucky if the electrician even calls me back. I've tried twice and asked the builder what was up. He texted him and the guy said he would call yesterday and still hasn't. We shall see, if not then it won't be a freeby after all. Really stinks cause I could really use those 6 cans downstairs he was initially coming to do.

    Have a great day everyone.
Wow, finally figured it out. Yea!
Holy moly - you don't come cheap do you. So did you decide to put the double light between the mirrors? What are "bobeches". I am learning so many new words here. Sometimes it is good when I see a dilemma and don't have a clue what they are talking about, I am trying to back off, but just can't help myself.

I see what you mean about the painting, very fiddly but the way my painting got, I didn't mind fiddly - preferred to to one huge wall, I just could never seem to get right. Watching the painter here, I think I really tried too hard and was too slow with it.

They are nice true grey colours. Hope you don't need to remix.
Is bobeche a real word? I thought it was Yiddish. Great colors TK!
Bobeche? I went back through and didn't see it? I screwed up somewhere.

Oh heavens no, we did not spend that. Just tagged it with a photo I found on line real quick. We found them much cheaper! My hubby would have shot me and we would have no lights at that price. Lol
  • 13 years ago
    Bobeche is a French word.
    Tras, the description -

Description: Two-light wall bracket with quartz inspired bobeches and a unique double drum shades in thistle weave and toasted linen fabric.

Great you got a good price - I won't tell anyone.
No light in-between, just on side walls. I'm going to do some ink drawings and frame them in beige frames to go between the mirrors, i think. Got the lights for 1/2 the price of that site I posted.

Thank you Bobbi! Love the nimbus, have it all over the main floor. Used the charcoal for the toilet room and the ceiling in the 1/2 bath so had some left over. Love that color too! Believe it or not, they both pull blue undertones in our home. The nimbus looks a lot lighter too.
That's funny! Just looked the word up, it's the candle dripping glass part under the shade. I learned something! Love it!
Tras, I love the light fixtures!! beautiful.
Thank you, MP! I know you guys are probably rolling your eyes at me by now " enough with the bathroom". But you know when you get into something and enjoy watching it evolve? That's me but no one to share it with so I use my Houzz friends. Hubby's on TAD and way to busy and well kids never pay attention to moms projects. What's funny is my daughter has two friends (i call them my adopted kids), when they come over they will go through the house to see what project is going on. Too cute.

Tras, I am coming in late on this convo, like the light fixture. You mentioned blending two shades of paint together. You can paint them on a surface take it to Benjamin Moore and have it computer scanned for the "recipe" of your own new color.

If you have mixed a custom color, duplicating it is almost impossible. So, if you don't think there's enough for the project, evaluate the situation after the first coat. If you need more, go to the paint store and get the color matched. Then, mix the remainder of the original paint together with the new paint. The new paint won't ever be a perfect match but it will be so close that if you have any light spots in the second coat, the first coat will appear to be the same color.

When we did a big house rehab project, I mixed various bits of paint remainders together and came up with about 3-4 gallons of a good basic tan color then went down to the paint store and bought a five of color matched paint then mixed everything. That way I was sure to have enough to paint the entire interior without worrying. Plus, if I have excess, I can always save enough for touchup then add the rest to the next custom mix job.
Hi guys, no I have plenty for the bathroom no problem. Just if I decide to use it somewhere else I will have to have it matched or try my chemistry out again. Always fun to play with color!

Can't wait for the mirrors to come in. Probably another week for those.

Linda you are correct. My thinking was if TK likes this new color a lot. She would have a near copy of it for the future. Painters love to take colors, like Ben Moore which is expensive, and then have them computer copied, into a less expensive brand and they are never exactly the same. That is a given.

Thank you for the links Roo! "Maggie" is definately a Queensland Heeler. The photo on thie link looks just like her. Mom's last dog may have been the Sheppard, she had one pretty blue eye and the other one brown. Cute.
