Finally got some nice much needed rain!

Here in Beaumont 1-7/8"...12min. south east at my test orchard/nursery 7/8" apparently will get some more and up north should be a huge relieve dousing forest fires.

Yeah..seems this happens always, might want to put your visit to work and pulling weeds while the ground is soft lol.

Rain and a little snow here in Calgary too. It has been so dry this spring that it feels great to see the moisture come.

We had company today too, but it was kind of a relief to have an excuse to keep all the little kids indoors away from all our just-sprouting plants.

More coming down in town, another 2 inches..total of 3 -7/8"

VioletJune, lol, I know what you mean about the kids. I live in fear of my grandkids loose in my yards in the Spring. All those tender shoots just coming up and their parents not even trying to keep them from tramping through the beds! Just not realizing, of course.

Yeah..because they don't have a garden. Despite the rain I was out permanently labeling the grafted trees.

4 inches of rain has fallen here and there's no water sitting even in the lower spots of my yard, it had been soooo dry that it all soaked in. Had finished sowing most all of my vegetable garden into powder dry soil like I've never seen before, though now the thirsty ground has been quenched and all we need is the sunshine and warmth to return!

Starting to look a bit better here now. And the forecast for the next few days looks like we'll finally get some sunshine again. Company's gone. Was outside this morning finishing filling my planter pots with the annuals I purchased for them, which I only got half finished last week because of the rain. Adding some small perennials to the pots as well. Then it started to rain again so had to come in. Was lunchtime anyways. Now it's looking like I could get out there again.

Twros, are you in Southern Alberta? I heard there's been closer to six inches east of Edmonton. North Calgary had snow but down south it was just sloppy and didn't stay on the ground.

It's good to see so much moisture.

Violetjune, I'm twenty mins nw of Edmonton and yes, it certainly was a savior rain! Was sooo cold though and snow had been falling about 30 mins west of here, friends were shaking it from their trees and shrubs to avoid them breaking ... don't you just love a May long weekend snow event, lol.

According to Global news, Edmonton got 71mm, here in Beaumont we got another 7/8", a total of 4.75" which is 120mm out at the orchard a total of 2.75" = 70mm.

Only 5mm up in FortMac...hopefully my daughter can move back soon.

So far the only rain of the year occurred a little more than a week ago. 22mm which was just under an inch. We've had drizzle here and there, but it hasn't added up to even a mil in the rain gauge. I hope the 15mm forecast tomorrow actually does come. My lawn looks awful with massive brown spots!

Today, received a big intense downpour with hail, did it ever come down! I have three pails sitting out and two of them show 5 inches and the other 5 3/4 inches have fallen during the past week. Water is now coming up in the fields and more rain is on the way.

It can get pretty spotty with thunderstorms...hopefully no significant damage, the next several days will be like this.

I haven't seen hail yet in calgary, but that's probably just because all the plants aren't up yet.

We got the 15mm and it was very slow. It should help kick start the growing season.

Violetjune, that is hilarious! But, I know what you mean. My daughter and her husband live in Calgary and they have had two cars destroyed by hail.

We got hail yesterday, I knew it was only a matter of time. Lots of thunder and my kids were terrified, but the hailstones were pretty small so it's mostly just cosmetic damage. We woke up this morning to frost on the roofs too! And it's almost June. But all this rain has been great for soaking into the dry ground.

My husband drove through hail yesterday coming back from Red Deer. It was near Killam. This time last year, coming back from Camrose, we drove through Killam in a terrible thunder rain storm and my car was hit by lightening. While I was driving it! Killed the car and insurance replaced it for me, thank goodness!

Connie I am glad you survived lightning hitting your car, thank goodness indeed! I did not know insurance covers lightning strikes.

My husband was hit by lightning before, he said it knocked him out and after his mouth tastes like batteries. What was your experience like?

They say it was raining so hard it created some kind of insulation for us. It was the worst lightening storm I'd ever seen and pouring incredibly hard. Honestly, we felt nothing! Just heard the huge BOOM and then noticed that the car was dead and all the lights on the dash were flashing. Pulled over to the side before we lost momentum and hoped no one behind us would hit us, it was raining so hard. Silly drivers didn't even slow down, not even when tow truck driver arrived!

We needed rain here too, but now it just won't quit! I still haven't gotten all of the vegetable garden planted because it has been raining or too wet when I've had the time. And now the weeds have come back so it will need to be tilled again. One of those years!
