I think I agree with Ed. Really your call, depending on how much it disturbs you. I sometimes move & divide plants in the spring & trim them back. Within a week, or maybe a little more, they are showing new growth. They don't bloom as well as if I had done it in the fall, but I'm dividing them. In your case, they may never know anything has happened.

I am happy to say that although the plant leaves look terrible after 4 weeks, but all of my daylilies are loaded with blooms and blooming. When I checked the leaves a week after the hail storm, some of the plants had aphids all over them. I did cut back a large amount of leaves and sprayed them.. They do have a good amount of new leaves and I remove the dying ones as they turn brown. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. At least I have blooms!
