Blooming Iris Blues and more

Thought I'd share some more pictures I took of my TB Irises that bloomed this week. It's said that Blue iris symbolizes faith and hope. My TB Irises have been slowly unfurling and standing in stately grace despite the recent bashing of the rain ,snow and wind.
Yesterday we had 45 mph winds, snow flurries and even light hail. Amazing how my irises made it through the storm. Not looking as lovely as a few days prior but not bad shape considering what they went through. Lucky I got these pictures a few days ago.

All but Olympiad have only been in my garden since last fall when I planted them. So far all are meeting past my expectations for vigorous growth habit and bloom.

Full Tide has a hint of purple cast to the falls. Pops so pretty next to Jennifer Rebecca.

My favorite TB Blue Iris is Olympiad, one that I have had in my garden a few years. The blooms are big and flowering last long. They multiply fast also.

I was so pleased in the size and form of Happenstance. A little disappointed it was not as PINK as I had hoped. More peachy in color.

I really like Olympiad; of course, clumps are always impressive. Yeah, I expected Happenstance to be more pink, although it is more pink than a couple of iris I have that are listed as pink. Rustler is a nice bright one. Love the blue iris, I have 3 or 4 I got years ago, have the names of them, but they look so similar & bloom at similar times that I haven't a clue which is which.

Thanks for your comment Nancy. One thing about Happenstance that I really like is it's big bloom size as well as the color has not faded even when we had 80 degrees on Tuesday then to near freezing temps, snow yesterday. Star Appeal a pink Iris is on my wish list to get, hope it's more of a true PINK.

I have 4 blue Iris also. The last I'm still waiting on to bloom is Merchant Marine. I'm hoping it is a deeper blue then my others.

    Nice ones.

I'm fond of "blues" also. I wish the pastel pink color descriptions included whether they were bluey-pink or peachy-pink! The bluey-pinks are prettier with lavenders than the others. IMO. Jennifer R. looks lovely.

Best Bet is pretty, but really, all of them are beautiful.

Olympiad is beautiful - love the ruffles!

Happenstance performs well here. Great pictures of Olympiad! Yes, the weather has been hard on almost everything, though at least we have had ample rainfall.

Thanks for your responses sandyslopes, princeton701 . mantis_oh I just seen your 2016 bloom post of your beautiful iris garden blooms and even with bad weather the display is just gorgeous. The freeze and snow last weekend crippled my blooms this season, hoping the iris blooms that haven't unfurled yet open a good display.

Patricia Claire unfurled today and I was surprised how black it looked on an overcast day. As the sun came out it looked deep purple popped with blue beards.Merchant Marine is the latest Blue to bloom and of all my favorite for color and beautiful ruffles. Dangerous mood I worried would look too much like Habit but it wins me over with it's dark golden beards.

Karen thank you, Olympiad was given to me by a friend a few years ago and has been a wonderful performer in our garden,it multiplies so much and long lasting blooms even in our horrible spring weather this year.

Ladyrose65,Best bet and Rustler have held up nicely with the wind storms and made nice clumps for their first bloom season. Glad you're enjoying the pictures, I have more to add as every few days something new blooms.

A few more blooms this week. Jesse's song is my favorite of the purples I got from Napa Gardens last fall . My irises Gitano and Looking Good had blooms damaged from our recent storms on Tuesday so not looking as nice as they could be.

Jesse's Song as viewed from the top is really amazing.
