I wish there were things like that in my area. I look at plants like art exhibits. In the second pic, what are those 2 in the front? The 7:00 and 5:00 position. They're so fancy

Katrina, I agree with you, they are like art - and the pot, positioning, accompanying rocks and top dressing are the frame that adds or detracts from the composition. There is an upcoming show in the next county not far from this one (second time now I've said, no more! because of the traffic) that I'll probably head out to because they will have 20 vendors - that's a lot! I'm hoping some of the growers from down south show up for that one but it's puzzling when one can't find a single Sans among the sales tables and only 2 entries in the show of the people who are aficionados of succulents yet a small nursery with a little bit of everything has a greenhouse with 20+ different cultivars? Weird. I should have asked the guy with 70 where he sources his from but then, I checked myself because I'm about out of room as it is. Anyway, I'm heading out to said nursery to see if they got something new in....

That's a very nice pot. It looks quite heavy. Once I get comfortable growing these guys, and making sure I know what I'm doing with light and watering/feeding, I'd like to get into dressing them. The majority of mine are in the cheap clay pots right now. I painted some of them to dress em up a little, but I've seen so many pretty ones I'd like to try.

I forgot to post this which explains the photo:

I'm back. He got in Bantel's Sensation, S. suffruticosa (big multiple fans with offsets), patens and various trifasciata (as he pointed out, nothing I don't already have). I almost bought a silver Hahnii that was different from the others there in that the margins were more eggshell than buttercream (i.e. whitish than yellowish) and the green was different, more uniform, maybe a shade deeper, but it varies according to light exposure (so many leaves packed in where they overlapped were very pale green/silver. It just looked different to me, but chances are it will be there next time. I opted for a very nice, bright green canaliculata (I have a duller, bigger canaliculata) and another schweinfurthii - so there, that fixed yesterday's journey with nothing to show for it but a pot, <grin>. At the moment, I really like the tubular leaves that go vertical straight out of the ground. S. fischerii is another of those - love, love, love that one.

Ha! I thought you gave up on Hahnii! I thought so. You can't resist, even when you try. Lol.

So since I've never seen these silver and green Hahniis, will you please post photos when you get it?

That's a start :-) I looked up Latin pronunciation and have an idea, but I'm probably way off

The thing about Latin to remember is all vowels are pronounced, so Hahnii is ha-nee-eye. The ii is always pronounced ee-eye.

Pinguicula always reminds me of Dracula for some reason. Lol. It is Pin-gwi-ju-la. In Latin/Italian, the letter "c" and a vowel is a hard sound, like "ci" is "chi" and "cu" is "ju". I know some of this from hearing the Latin names so much working in the horticulture trade for so long. I still get many wrong.

Yes, just as I thought. I was butchering them! Thanks for that Lesson in Latin. I was leaving off the "eye" and pronouncing like Dracula.
