I need help Identifying this

Hi everyone I want to weed today , since it is finally not raining in Springfield Ohio and I have some free time . Anyhow I did not plant any jalapeños in my garden this year but I have a feeling that many may be coming up , or is it just a weed ? Also does anyone know of an app lets lets you identify leaves by a photo you take ? , as to whether or not it's a plant or weed ? . It came up in the area I planted Jalapenos last year along with some cilantro that volunteered to come up this year and is flourishing. Thanks in advance .... Wendy .

I am thinking weed. Is it growing faster than a real pepper would normally grow?

I guess there is no harm letting it go a while longer until it puts out buds or something else that can make the determination more definitive.

Unless you allowed ripe fruit to fall on ground & seeds to sprout?

I have an always do,it is the reason my cilantro comes back year after year. I let some plants go to seed , so i can have heirloom plants. The problem is when plants are small their leaves do not look the same as full plants. I ended up weeded out most of them and left a few to see what it is , so I know for next year . Thanks for your reply though, I appreciate it !!

Agree that it's a weed. What it is, I have no idea. There are lots of knowledgeable people over on the Name That Plant! Forum. You might wanna try over there.

It's Polygonum aka smartweed or knotweed; you'll want to get rid of it.
