Would you put beams on this ceiling?

Here is a pic of our new living room (not our stuff as we close next week).

The floors will be a bit darker as they are being refinished and the walls and ceiling will be Repose Gray by Sherwin Williams.

Would you put beams on the ceiling?

Would you paint the back of the shelves?

Any other thoughts?

I personally would make the beams match the color stain you are doing on the wood floor, for contrast and to really draw you eye up. You have great architecture here, so I would really showcase that along with the high ceilings. White beams are good when the ceilings aren't so high, but with them being that tall they might get lost.

I think some white beams would be nice. I would paint the back of the shelves white. The darker floors will really make that fireplace pop!

No. It's a beautiful room already. I prefer sleek and clean. That said, since you're asking, it suggests that you're wanting to do this!

No beams, they'll interfere with that amazing window.

Beams would be the last thing to do. Get the living area just right with all your furniture, art, rugs and other decor. Decorate your home from the bottom up not the top down.

You can install them and not block the view in anyway. You can do the wood ones, or the fiberglass ones that come distressed and in multiple depths and lengths, but I think that you only need two going across. Also select a larger better designed fan for the room.

If you do decide to add beams, I would suggest the short direction between the fireplace and the window wall in the two space between the slope change.....I like the white beams or the distressed beams that were shown earlier in photos.

Another option is to do crown molding instead.

BeverlyFLADeziner, You are awesome. Thanks for adding the photos. Ironically, that is the exact fan we were looking at. Wife says it's too industrial/Husband says it's efficient and will look far better without costing as much as a haiku.

Lampert, we have discussed placing the beams at the slope change. It would a be far simpler installation as well.

Also, if you do go with the beams, make sure that you size them large enough to look like they could hold up the structure, even though they are faux beams.

How about finishing the crown molding around the entire room?

Interesting idea. Doing so would also allow us to have some uplighting on the sides if we used led light strips above/behind it.

Why do you want beams? The window is the focal point along with the fireplace- adding a third place for the eye to go will get too busy. Live in it for awhile no then decide.

That is our plan. The start of the project in the living room will start about a month after we move in, so we'll try and feel it out a bit first. I think the main reason beams come to mind is that when we're in the room the ceiling looks like an enormous white blank space. We're not remotely designers though.
