White Trillium placement

last modified: 10 years ago
I was given a white trillium yesterday and I'm torn about where to put it. A neighbor found it at a local wild plant sale - it was rescued from a forested lot that is being developed. Since I adore the plant, I want to make sure that the location I choose for it is suitable... here are the two places I have in mind. What would you suggest? The plant itself is two stems, one with a flower. Zone 6, SW Ontario.

1. On the west side of my house there's a small sheltered garden, maybe 5'x3', that has a good sized ornamental Japanese maple and a couple kitchen herbs in it. It's sheltered by the house to the east, the garage to the north and a staircase to the south. I'd put it under the tree.

2. On the north side of the garage. Currently there's pea gravel there and some old fencing... I've been meaning to dig a bed for hostas and had coincidentally impulse-bought a white bleeding heart for that spot when out shopping for annuals yesterday... incentive to get my butt in gear and clean up the spot. The area is open to the north and west, with a huge mature maple to the east casting shade for a good chunk of the day.

Where would you put it? Apologies if this isn't the correct forum!
