What a disappointment! I hope they can still offer a replacement (i.e.- I hope they haven't sold out for the year).

If the base plate is still OK or at least the outside ring, you may try to save it. I saved one on the order from RC. I cored out all the mush inside and poured in sulfur. I left it for a few days then set the bulb on perlite. The base plate ring started to send out roots and I have several little plants growing from it.

I did this after I was done peeling, but the outside is very mushy. Time will tell.
