The bank of red roses were purchased at the grocery store as four tiny plants in a single pot that I paid $1 for (rescued from the plant nursery). Not bad for $0.25 each! The pink ones were three to a pot for $3, but I still consider that a pretty good deal. I have no idea what kind they are, but they're very pretty.

They bloom nonstop all summer, even through the annual summer drought, without irrigation. All I do is deadhead them, although I suspect I'll have to figure out how to prune roses soon. I'm planning to put a crimson David Austin rose into the gap above the red roses to add some fragrance to this area - well, in addition to the rosemary, sage and lavender. This is my favorite part of the garden to date. It feels very English/Cottage Garden to me!
