Good things will come for those who wait, even in 7b Washington, and for those who just planted out.

The varieties are: bright ripe orange in the middle is Orange Blossom, small orange to the right at 4 o'clock is Juan Flamme, north of Juan with a faint blush is Big Beef, behind big beef, barely any blush is another Orange Blossom. Two to the left, dark, are Cherokee Purple. Two cherries in front are Purple Bumble Bee.

i am starting to get an appreciation for those who have slow growing climates. My plants are just starting to show some leaf diseases. At this point, I am hesitant to intervene. I believe most of the set fruit will make it.

When I came home after work, there were some more "counter" ready. I love bringing them in the house.

That is nice. I see that you are beating the birds, squirrels and other tomato loving beings.

I found exactly one bad worm and he molested four tomatoes. I have been very lucky.

I have some good inhabitants I forgot to mention. Several banana(?) spiders have moved in. There are many insects in their webs. Lots of lizards hang out on the cages most of the time. And there are snakes and frogs, plus dragonflies. And there are holes going under the raised beds. Something lives down there. Not sure what (and don't need to know if tomato plants are happy).

More counter tomatoes.

Tonight's haul is in the basket. I lost two Cherokee Purples to birds. One bite each. The CPs have a thin canopy and the birds can't resist. These ripened fast today and I lost out.

Thanks for posting some great pics!? Do you plan to start a Fall Crop? If the weather cooperates, no significant tropical events, you will be picking tomatoes @ Thanksgiving...

I need to make a decision. I think the best approach may be "fall experiment". I have some six year old seed, plus the big box stores still have seedlings. I would like to try both - my seed growing skills need some practice. there are two obstacles affecting my motivation:. Stink bugs and it is plain nasty outside in July/August. The past 3 months have been a gardeners paradise. If the tomatoes that are ripe in October/November have stink bug marks on them, I am just not interested. I have bad memories of what they can do to nice fruit. I had some sun golds grow through to the fall before. It is one of those things that sounds good in theory, but in practice there are some harsh realities.

Thanks tbird. The stink bugs have arrived. Starting to mark up the tomatoes. Since I like looking at/photographing my tomatoes, the stink bugs must go. I am willing to space out my plants in the future to make hunting them easier, but right now the situation is not good. I crowded my plants. Unfortunately , I have some late bloomers that I may miss out on. I have some Brandywine, black Krim and mortgage lifter that need some more time to ripen. I am thinking of doing something a little odd:. Leave a core of five or six big beefs as a trap to keep them off the others. The stink bugs like the heave foliage of the big beefs. All the remaining maters I listed above have thin foliage. Might work to buy me some Time. Plus i have plenty of big beefs.

June counter tomatoes. Pest pressures and stink bugs are out of control. I harvest before blush. Had heavy rains and can see some split damage on green zebras and a couple others. Also have some sun scald damage. Doing ok, got most of mine before hell broke loose. I am seeing the value of "earlies". The "mids" are very doubtful.

My first tomato was a single sungold with my lettuce and carrots. So yes, yours qualif as Counter tomatoes. Looks like you have had some rain. Your lettuce is beautiful, it obviously loves rain.
