These are gorgeous, look like velvet.

Oklahoma is currently my favorite rose. I bought one last year and was so impressed, I bought two more. Huge, magnificent blooms with soft yet leathery petals, and that fragrance! I have Munstead Wood too, and though the fragrance may actually be better on that, I've never had, and doubt I'll ever have, blooms from MW as dark as Oklahoma's. This year, with one or two exceptions at the beginning of the season (which here in Zone 10a/20, SoCal, comes in Feb-March), Munstead has mostly produced small, pinkish flowers. Oklahoma will burn in the sun, of course, and Munstead is partially shaded, so things can always change.

Sylvia--isn't it odd the different shades we hear about for Munstead Wood from posters in different regions. As you can see, it very nearly matches my Oklahoma for velvet darkness--but if last summer is any guide, my Oklahoma will be more like Beth's Dark Desire, whereas my MW will retain its darkness--just the opposite of you. I have no explanation for this phenomenon. Both of mine, by the way, are in 6-8 hours of sun--MW may get even more sun than that.

Beth, does your Dark Desire ever get as dark as my Oklahoma and Munstead Woods pics above? I thought I'd seen some DDs that were that dark.

Interesting, with MW and DD, they are still have really beautiful blooms even when they don't attain that dark, dark color. I hope my Oklahoma becomes as good as Sylvia's are. Mine falls apart easily, for some reason--has that seemingly well-controlled form seen in my pic above, and a day later takes on a slovenly, jumbled appearance. (My Valencia tends to do that also.)

Well, I guess I'll just enjoy those dark burgundy blooms whenever I can. Thanks everybody for your nice comments about these dark beauties.
