Dan, apparently nobody around here is growing Amy's Apricot.

It sounds like AA is a late/slow ripening. I have never grown it.

Sorry. Never heard of Amy's Apricot. Is it tasty?

Personally, I don't know if it's tasty. I haven't had a ripe one yet. But it got raves at a big tomato festival a few years ago. I now see a post by someone else two years ago saying that it took forever to ripen. Well, indeed!

Dan, now that you've already started this thread, please keep us posted when the tomatoes ripen. On taste, productivity ... etc.

OK, first taste. They're really nice. A little more tart than Sweet 100 and (ironically) somewhat sweeter as well. That is, they're sweet, but with a nice acidic edge. The productivity is high. I've got hundreds on my trellis. But they take FOREVER to get ripe. My Sweet 100s were getting picked two or three weeks ago. These things get big and green and then just sit there for several weeks. Now, one question is, how do I know when they're ripe? They look apricot colored right? Nope. They eventually get all red. Not sure where the "apricot" name came from. Once they start to turn color, it still takes a week or two to get red. Weird.

The red one I sampled was from a cluster far back. I'll post a pic when one ripens in a more photographically accessible place.

I think there is an "apricot" like one in the back. But the ripe ones are red. These are not small cherries. About 1.5 inch across when ripe.

But the time to harvest is long enough that while these work very well in the spring, I'm not sure I'd want to try them in the fall. Our "fall" season is about a month shorter than our "spring" season.

OK, time for a final analysis of Amy's. Taste is excellent, though I like all tomatoes! The delay on them is EXTREMELY frustrating. I started eating them in early June, while I would have been eating Sweet100s a month earlier. The tomatoes get big, and green, and then just sit, for weeks to a time, before even starting to blush. Once they start to blush, you're still looking at a week or two. That said, I should also say that the productivity is excellent. We're drowning in fruit.

Also these tomatoes can't seem to decide when to be ripe. That picture of mine showed red fruit but, in reality, most of the ripe (e.g falling off the vine) fruit is yellow-orange. I have no idea why a few decide to turn red.

Another strange thing is that as the fruits ripen, the foliage dies. Yes, the plant just says "my fruit are out, so I'm DONE!" Not a chance of trying to coax them into a fall crop. It's not disease or fungus or lack of water. Just turn brown.

I think next year, I'll grow one trellis of these, and another trellis of Sweet100s, just to space out the harvesting.

I've found that black cherry is also a cherry that is late to ripen. But it has very full-bodied "big tomato" flavor. So maybe flavor intensity takes time, even in small packages. I was eating sungolds for a while before the black cherry finally decided to ripen, but the wait was worth it. I actually advised people I shared seed with that they would drive themselves less crazy if they just considered it a mid-season tomato, despite the fact that it's a cherry. Sounds like AA is similar.

If you know what to expect and be patient it sounds like a good variety. So you get your Sweet 100, then followed by Amy's.

BTW: is it a hybrid or an OP ?

I believe it's OP. It won some awards a few years ago, so I thought it was worth a try.
