Craftsman Wheeled String Trimmer

I have a Craftsman wheeled string trimmer that I inherited from my Dad. Tried to use it for the first time, and it will not start. I suspect a carburation problem since it has 60 psig compression as well as spark, but have not had the time to diagnose it yet. Since it is a Tecumseh engine, my options as far as getting parts are going to be pretty limited. My question is: If I have to give up on this engine and buy another one, what are my options? A "normal" lawnmower engine essentially uses the blade as flywheel, and won't start without it. Since this engine has no blade, is it a "special" engine of some sort? Would sure hate to buy a new engine and install it only to find that it won't start because it is the wrong type!
