If it were mine I would cut it below the brown. Sometimes it just happens.

Thank you, I did cut it below the brown once and then it did the same thing. Oh well.

On mine, i cut it AT the brown. I cut the crunchy brown above the calloused part off, but left the hard brown callous. It hasn't "browned" anymore below since then. On yours, it wont be an even cut but it won't keep going further either.

Great advise but I would add some sulfur dust. Even if in the soil. Sans like to be on the acid side. 6.3 to 7.0 I think. Any way, the sulfur doesn't hurt it.

Also, it is a great looking 'Whitney'.
