That's Cirsium arvense, aka Canada Thistle or Creeping Thistle. It is joined below the surface by a network of running stems and roots and you need to get rid of it all or it will be back. As to how you do it, that depends on your attitude to herbicides.

What you have is not good! Even with chemicals it will be difficult to control since it looks like it has developed a large underground root system. Are you opposed to herbicides? And what area do you live in?

I live in Minnesota. I've noticed the root system as I've tried pulling what I see on the surface. I would not be opposed to herbicides I guess. Unfortunately they seem to have creeped into my strawberries and raspberries so I'm guessing those may have to be sacrificed if I'm going to get rid of it correct?

Glyphosate kills on contact so won't hurt those plants if you don't get spray on them. Here is a good article from Rutgers:
