Don't have the name for this one right now. The tag is irretrievably stuck in the densely overfilled pot. I will have to cut the pot to get it out but a friend of mine has the same plant and I'll post the name when I get it. It's a hybrid. Sheila, this one is big and heavy, the other one needs to grow up. Above pictures show the jungle (my greenhouse) where it lives
Here it is at my daughter's porch. I hope the hook will hold it, it took all of my strength to hoist it up there. Unfortunately I just watered it which did not help.
Is this one of the cyms crossed with grammitophylum (hope I got close on the name)? I have one of that cross but it didn't bloom last season. Made three new growths and I'm hoping it will bloom this Fall. It came from Kawamota.
Grammatocymbidium Lovely Melody = Cymbidium ensifolium x Grammatophyllum scriptum "A very new and unique hybrid between Grammatophyllum scriptum and Cymbidium ensifolium. Quite compact plants, around 12" tall, will produce sprays of brilliant yellow flowers reminiscent of it's cymbidium parent. Great warmth tolerance for those that have difficulty growing cymbidiums." as per Hybrids
I talked to our local Cymbidiumn expert and got 1 step closer. He says it is not Mitzi as Mitzi is green. SBOE has a picture of Mitzi 'Mabel' which is yellow. He says it is an unamed cross between (findlaysoniaum and ????spelling/ cerise, cherise or something like that) I cannot find a record of the second parent anywhere. Help! Arthur?
Sorry Nick! No idea and just to confuse the issue those Grammatocymbidiums look like Cymbidiums. Not that I've ever seen one hereabouts, just relying on the University of google.
Big foliage and small flowers in the pure Cymbidium world come from Cymbidium madidum. Pic of plants and blooms in the other current Cymbidium bloom thread .
