Is there a particular herbicide that works best on this?

How large of an area is covered with the ground ivy? Also are there tree roots there? Or any other plants you want to keep?

Try ortho poison ivy and oak killer. Tryclopyr is the active ingredient. I use that and I add some dawn dish soap and it cleared poison ivy and even my regular ivy I had planted. Might take two doses

Kimpa, it is located on the northeast edge of the property in a shaded area. Part of the challenge will be the currently vacant lot that borders me has been cleared for new construction has its own share of it! Here are some more photos if they help.

Greendave, thank you for the suggestion. I've already ordered some Bayer brush killer to tackle the English ivy that's taking over from the back property line. It looks like it has the same active ingredient. I hope this works!

The spike leaves nearest the camera appear to be bearded Iris. I can't make out the further ones.

Don't worry. I know the picture wasn't for id purposes. Just thought you might be interested and it would help if you decided to move them. They may not be flowering because they need more sun.

The brush killer shouldn't kill the grass. I would try to keep the spray away from the exposed tree roots and bark. If you want to kill all vegetation including grass, you could use glyphosate (Roundup).
