Ok so i have had my chives in the same pot for a very long time now....years in fact...when they were dug out of my garden (by my ex) he dug them up with some grass as well...for years i have spent a lot of time trying to keep the grass down to dull roar....every year my chives bloomed and were beautiful a tall ...AND ROUND!!! this year we have had a very early spring due to unusual warm weather and tons of sun....when my chives (along with the grass) started sprouting up o went to work (as i usually do) to start pulling out the grass ...as i get to pulling i grabbed what i thought was small chunk of grass ...hoping to get the roots too...when i pulled it out it smelled just like my chives....as i disected this it smelled and tasted like a chive but looks exactly like the grass.....is it possible that over time the grass and chives have made some sort of hybrid grass/chive plant and if so is it safe to eat (the kids love to pull and eat right off the plant) ?????
