With our late spring here, the butterflies have been pretty slow in showing up. I was just telling my husband today that I had only seen 2 Mourning Cloaks in the past 2 years, when about 15 minutes later, I found this! A bit tattered, but beautiful, nonetheless. What a nice surprise! I just read that they overwinter as adults and go into cryo-preservation. If that's true, no wonder it's tattered! I felt so lucky.
