Pyrethrins are acceptable insecticides for use by organic growers, but not the pyrethroids (synthetic pyrethrins). Thuricide is on product of the Bacillus thuringeinsus - Kurstaki sprays that are acceptable to organic growers as well, as is Milky Spore Disease (Paenibacillus popilliae). Both of those are bacteriums with quite limited targets while the pyrethrins are very broad spectrum and are usually suggested as last resort poisons to use.

Producers of products do not always label them as "Organic" even when they are acceptable to organic growers.

If you are required to meet OMRI standards for crop production for whatever reason, then you'll need to find manufacturers and brands that are OMRI approved.

Thuricide, from Bonide, is not an OMRI product but there are many other liquid brands that are. They may be harder to find and more $$$$ thesince they need to be available to certified professional producers and not backyard growers. Thuricide is ABSOLUTELY FINE for organic home growers and is what I use.

OMRI approval of these Bt brands probably boils down to a small difference in the percent of active ingredent or (most likely) in the other ingredients.

Carriers, emulsifiers, etc. are essential but unless THEY can be certified, the OMRI listing is elusive. And the difference in percentages can be measured in a couple of tenths!

I consider myself a home grower who gardens 'organically'. I do not need OMRI Certification but use products that follow organic theory and my own picky personal standards.

Does that make sense? It's YOUR job to research the products that you use; good for you for wondering about this. Unless you are a commercial organic grower, and must use certified products, you are very safe and smart to shop for those brands and products that meet your criteria. We each have our own....I would never use pyrethrins, for example. :-)

Using dish detergents as a pesticide would be considered off-label use and it is that, not any specific ingredients, which prevents them from meeting the standards for organic crop production.
