Shallot scapes

I have two generations of shallots growing in my garden: descendants of supermarket shallots planted last fall, and Spring-seeded Zebrune seedlings planted out a month ago.

The supermarket shallot greens are huge, and about half of them, have begun to shoot up scapes. Question: Do I cut off the scapes similar to advice in the long-running garlic posts?

I have rad various advice on other sites saying just cut them off and they are yummy, but others say those shallots are rotting, so pull them up. I'm confused...
