I am asking this exact question myself! I initially had the performance tweed but it pilled so horribly within 5 months, PB is replacing the slipcover and cushions. I am leaning towards the sunbrella performance boss tweed in pebble, but worried about the pilling from 100% acrylic. Online reviews are very mixed.

I have the traditional Sunbrella canvas fabric and it has held up VERY WELL.

Anything acrylic furniture will pill. I have used Sunbrella canvas for years and have never had a problem with it.

Purchased a PB sectional, with Sunbrella: Peformance Boss Tweed Pebble, yes have noticed some pilling, but worse than that, the chemical smell is awful. The sectional was delivered, first week of Feb., it is now March 15. So it has been about a month and a half.

Christine, I had the exact same problem and called Sunbrella directly to pitch a fit. They suggested using a fabric shaver. (I have the Boss Tweed Indigo on my sectional, which I specifically chose for resilience. That was a mistake.). They suggest using a fabric shaver and claim if you shave it once it will solve the problem. I don’t know if that’s true—don’t have the shaver yet—but I plan to give it a try. Here’s my sectional after 4.5 months with minimal wear and tear. Ridiculous! $1200 in fabric alone. Let’s hope the shaver works!

Does anyone have a sofa in the Sunbrella slub tweed?

Although I didn’t have slub tweed, I would caution about using any of the Sunbrella fabrics. I bought another sofa through a different company and after explaining what happened at Pottery Barn, I was told that the indoor Sunbrella fabrics are not the same quality as the outdoor ones. I chose a poly, acrylic, cotton blend for our second sofa and after 9 months it still looks great. The Sunbrella fabric looked like it was 10 years old at 9 months. Chris603

So would everyone suggest not ordering a couch from PB? I am in love with the pearce collection and need a substitution option if anyone has one.

It took me 4 months and countless phone calls to get PB to take back my sofa. I sent a registered letter to PB headquarters detailing my experience and dismay that they never contacted me each time that they said that they would. PB never responder to my letter.

HU-658269416 IDK if you're still considering this sofa...I had a Pearce sofa in performance suede stone and loved it. I thought the material held up very nicely with pets/kids.

I have a PB Pearce sectional in performance suede and 10 years later it still looks great. We have kids and the couch has been heavily used. We have been able to wipe just about anything off of this fabric. The seat cushions still look really good.

In late 2016, we bought a Younger Furniture couch with a tweed fabric that 1 month in looked terrible. Been calling about this couch since it arrived. It is awful. We were told to sweater shave it as well. Spent $100 on numerous sweater shavers and countless hours - keeps piling and looks like it is ready for the dump. Which is where it is heading...

Does anyone has performance twill warm white and can advise me if it’s pilling or not?

Because of my experience with Pottery Barn & Sunbrella, I bought a second sofa through a local furniture store. When I was choosing a fabric I told the sales person about my PB experience. He told me that the Sunbrella indoor fabric used on furniture is not the same high quality as the outdoor fabric. My second sofa almost 2yr old and doesn’t even come close to looking as bad as the Sunbrella did after 6 months. My advice is to stay away from Sunbrella.

Pottery barn sales persons are trying to sale the sunbrella as they are the most expensive fabric they have and their advices didn’t help me much but, Thank you so much for your advice, I definitely will do.

I returned my Sunbrella covered sofa. As it turns out the indoor Sunbrella fabrics is not even close to the better outdoor Sunbrella. I had my sofa for about 8-9 months when problems with the Bamboo Sunbrella started showing. You can read about what happened in my earlier posts.

Hi, I returned the sofa a couple of years ago. It was 1.5 yr old and look like it was 5yr. If I had kept it, I am sure I would have needed to replace the entire sofa by now.

@sarah olivia I actually did! My designer swears it holds up well.. and states PB will stand behind their product so I did. I has not arrived yet though! Looks like the end of August.

Ifyou look at the description of a fabric, check the number of "Rubs." The higher the "Rubs" count, the longer the fabric will last. Rubs is equivalent to someone sitting down into the sofa. Avoid the Rubs counts below 20K unless the sofa is going to be seen and not sat upon. A Rub count of 50K should hold up well, but your mileage may vary.

@Abby Hello! So we have had it a few months now... so far so good. I absolutely LOVE the couch. I am constantly turning cushions and rearranging based on our seating patterns because I am paranoid but so far NO regrets!

@sarah olivia yes, we ordered the sunbrella performance boss herringbone pebble. So far so good... but it has been only a few months. I LOVE the fabric and the entire sectional. No regrets here yet!

@J Mc_2 It's been a few more months since you posted this. Are you still happy with the Sunbrella Boss Herringbone? I'm thinking about ordering two chairs in this fabric, and I'm feeling anxious about it since so many of the Sunbrella fabrics have bad reviews. Would you mind sharing a picture?

ldavis2533 I've found the same thing; bad performance fabric reviews. They say happy people don't leave reviews. But I have friends who've had pilling issues. I just bought a used sectional from friends. It's in good shape. I didn't like the idea of sinking 7K on a sofa with thin, crappy fabric. Buying upholstered furniture is a gamble and a mystery these days. Hope you have good luck.

@J Mc_2, I hope you are well! If you see this, I was hoping you might tell us how things are going with your Sunbrella Boss Herringbone? Any pilling? Is it soft enough or do you find it scratchy. Any experience with spills/staining? Thank you very much!

@Sarah TB Hello! It is going so well! No pilling at all.. it is definitely soft enough. We have 2 dogs so have definitely had opportunities for dirt/ hair etc and so far everything has come out wonderfully. I have removed and washed the covers one time and they still looked great. I do keep blankets on the couch most of the time though for the pups. I have not regretted this purchase for one moment to date!

ldavis2533 I love my sectional still.. no problems with washing it and anything that I have gotten on it has come out. No pilling!

Dream in Sunbrella chenille salt is garbage. the cushions are constantly squashed and it looks dirty all the time. no stains or spills or pets- just looks really used within days of cleaning. BIG REGRET.
