Thank you for your response. How do you get rid of flea beetles? Will the fertilizer solve the yellow leaves problem? Here are the pictures of the eggplant problem.

Sahai6 - I am also in Northern VA and I have egg plants and peppers planted among my landscape plants on the north side of my house. This year I dug a hole for each plant about 3 times larger than the transplant's container and filled it with garden soil and manure. I also added a tablespoon of Epsom salt. They are growing very well. I have grown them for many years and noted that the primary insect that attacks them if the flea beetle. Seven dust takes care of the problem.

If you want an organic possibility of discouraging flea beetles, try diatomaceous earth. Wet the plants down well, both tops and bottoms of leaves, and dust the stuff all through the eggplant leaves. And keep them fertilized well - you want your eggplant growing strong to stay ahead of flea beetles.
