I don't have any experience with this, so its just a shot in the dark, but perhaps one option is to seam on purpose -- design the layout so that the seams (if unavoidable) are part of the design/layout. For instance, if the portion behind the hood -- is three pieces seamed together, and the seams are placed deliberately (so for instance, its 3 panels of same size, or middle panel is wider, behind the cooktop). It could be decoratively done (little nails) or rolled, etc. (Ideally someone else can respond with a 'no seam' plan.)

More info MAY help! This is behind cook top, pic attached. Everywhere you see OSB will be rock, also wrapping to back of inset where drywall is currently. The only place I want copper is on the back wall. Hope this makes sense!

Where are you looking? Check with a tinsmith or sheetmetal worker it should be available larger. Night be big dollars more but..................

I checked several fabricators in the area, they said the rolls do not come wider than 3'.

I have several copper backsplashes in our home - kitchen and laundry room. I purchased from our HVAC company - cut them to size for me, as well as the range hood. He also clad the exterior of our chimney in copper, and did the valleys and roof edge drip. DH installed the backsplashes before the cabinetry was installed.

As you can see, the far end of laundry room copper is more than 36" tall, so check with a few HVAC companies.

If you want a patina, I suggest you leave it outside on a flat area and hose off several times, letting it dry in between. We did this with the copper sliding panels that hides the television.

Sunny Days, I just looked online for you and the widest I see the sheets is 48" wide. What if you did a sheet going up the middle and then two narrow sheets on the sides?

Ok, here's what I'm thinking. The fabricators here in town can only do 3' rolls, so if I get 3 pieces, I'll have 2 seams, but they can be minimized. One piece will be 36" x 67", 2 pieces will be 24' x 31"... This will allow me to get all 3 pieces out of one sheet.

Thank you, and you're welcome... but I see it didn't help. No one has sheets? The copper is thicker and panels are larger (than rolls). If not, they should be able to bend the copper on their brake to make overlapping/connecting joints (like cupping your hands and locking fingers). Not sure if that makes sense, but not sure how else to explain.

The seam in my laundry room is to the left side of window (but behind the trim) so only small seam at bottom (between window trim and counter) and top (window trim to ceiling trim). I decided to cupping joints and just overlapped. My guy bent thin pieces of copper on each side to make the trim - on either side of the range hood/front. He made a decorative piece to go down the front/center, but I did not let him install.

No one that I've talked to, locally, has sheets bigger than 3'. One said they can order in 4', but lead time is 2 weeks, and unfortunately, I don't have time to wait for what would ALSO be a seamed install.

How do you attach the copper? Does it show every bump underneath? How hard is it to keep clean, i.e. let's say if you scrub grease splattrrs, do you scrub off the patina?

DH attached it to the wall with Liquid Nails (measure twice, glue once). If using between counters, cut a bit extra top/bottom to go behind cabinets. I did not want molding or a small granite backsplash piece at the bottom applied at counter/backsplash intersection so this gives it a finished look.

The copper sheeting is thick, so it does not show any bump from underneath. That said, we were a new build and there are no bumps underneath. I wipe it with a damp cloth/sponge to help it patina (not very often). Since it's not behind the range, I don't have to worry about splatters. I bought the same deep sink for current laundry room that was in last house/kitchen. Only things that took away the patina were acidic (ketchup, lemon juice) but the patina came back quickly to those areas.

Allison, I've got the copper, now preparing to start it's patina. You say that the best option is to "water" it... Is that all you did for the panels? I don't want the green patina, but rather the "old penny" look like you have. Mine WILL be directly behind the cooktop, so I'll likely wipe it down with a wet sponge daily.

They were not wet down before installing and it has taken 10 years to get to the point in the pictures (they were retaken/replaced w/in the last year when the site owner changed to new website host w/larger pics). I originally started wiping with damp sponge and/or misting with water bottle daily. It's just not the same. The TV panels were hosed down and are much better looking. They won't turn penny color by hosing down a few times. Let dry in the sun.
